DRUMCORE was founded 4 years ago by partners Jason Smith and Roy Nichols.  Jason, a band director and percussion instructor at a local Alabama high school, was shocked at the price of new marching percussion equipment.  The real question was, “Why replace?”  The damage to the drums was largely cosmetic.  The cortex (the colored covering around the shell) was faded and torn.  The hardware could be easily repaired or replaced and the shells were in great shape.  Roy, having over 10 years experience in assembly and repair, suggested that the drums be refurbished. The old cortex was removed and new cortex applied.  The hardware was powder-coated to give it a gloss finish and an entirely new look. The final product was viewed during marching season and became immediately desirable. What band director does not want the appearance of new drums at a fraction of the cost?  Thus, the business was born!
